ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING CONSULTANT Position Description
ETHOS NRMEthos NRM is a highly regarded and rapidly expanding professional environmental planning and natural resource management consultancy based in Bairnsdale, Victoria. The Company’s services cover the full spectrum of natural resource management issues, including environmental / statutory planning approvals, strategic planning, recreation planning, flora and fauna assessment, environmental impact assessment, revegetation and rehabilitation, project management, community consultation, government liaison and preparation of funding submissions. Ethos NRM provides advice to Government agencies, community groups and a broad range of private sector clients. POSITION DESCRIPTIONEnvironmental Planning Consultant Reporting directly to the Principal Consultant. Based in Bairnsdale, Victoria. The position provides an opportunity to bring skills to the company and apply them during a time of growth, including into areas not previously serviced. The right person will work as an integral part of the company to ensure continued delivery of high quality consulting services. The position provides a good blend of office and field-based work. QUALIFICATIONSTertiary qualifications in either: · Environmental Science · Biological Sciences · Earth Sciences · Environmental Engineering, or Natural Resource Management related spheres. · Honours or post-graduate studies will be considered favourably.
EXPERIENCE and KEY ATTRIBUTESMinimum 5 years’ employment in environmental planning/engineering or natural resource management related employment, either in Government or private practice. Sound knowledge of, and past experience working with key environmental planning and natural resource management strategies/documents relevant to land use planning in Gippsland (or elsewhere if able to demonstrate clear understanding of Gippsland-based issues). Must possess knowledge of State and Commonwealth environmental policy/legislation relevant to natural resource management. Must have high level written and verbal skills. Proven past experience in preparing detailed management plans and related reports is essential, including the capacity to communicate outcomes to clients. Must possess a high capacity for self-motivation and be able to apply environmental knowledge to a variety of planning and environmental assessment tasks. Excellent time management skills and the ability to work largely independent of supervision is essential. Advanced word processor and computer skills are essential. Demonstrated past experience in one or more of the following fields is a prerequisite: · Research for, and preparation of, Crown land conservation management plans, such as Coastal/Foreshore management plans, Riparian/Wetland management plans, Wildlife Reserve or National Park management plans. · Research for, and preparation of, strategic environmental or natural resource management planning documents, such as catchment management strategies, river management/health strategies, or water quality management plans etc. · Preparation of supporting documentation for environmental statutory approvals, including for planning scheme permit applications, Crown land works approval, or under the Commonwealth EPBC Act. · Preparation of flora and fauna assessment reports. · Preparation of soil & water erosion management plans, and rehabilitation / revegetation plans for construction sites. · Preparation of works plans and specifications in sensitive environments, including rehabilitation / revegetation specifications.
Whilst not essential, past field-based experience would be greatly beneficial, including in the areas of: · Vegetation surveys in accordance with the Habitat Hectare Assessment, Index of Stream Condition, and Index of Wetland Condition methods. · Soil type investigations and land capability assessments, including for the purposes of domestic wastewater management. · Fauna surveys. · Environmental monitoring (eg water quality).
Previous consulting experience will be considered favourably, but is not essential. DUTIES / DELIVERABLESWorking as part of a small team of professionals, the successful applicant will be responsible for the full range of tasks necessary to deliver projects to clients in a efficient manner, including: · Client liaison · Research for, and preparation of reports · Field investigations, if required as part of a project · Associated administrative tasks · Project budgeting and invoicing KEY SELECTION CRITERIA· Appropriate qualifications · Appropriate experience and professional attributes, with demonstrated past results · Capacity to efficiently and effectively undertake necessary tasks · Capacity to work in a client-focused consulting environment WORK ENVIRONMENTThe successful applicant will work as part of a small team of multi-disciplinary environmental planning practitioners. Ethos NRM operates from a stand-alone office (former residence) in the expanding business district of Bairnsdale. All office infrastructure is provided.
